Sleeve for grub screws

Post by JonnyCJ » Wed Apr 24, 2019 3:47 pm

Really off topic one this, but I'm looking to use a grub screw in some soft material (wood/stone) that won't take a thread.

Is there such a thing as a pre-tapped sleeve available anywhere ? Looking for a pretty small sleeve approx. 3mm diameter which can be glued in place to take a grub screw.

Cheers

Jonny

Time serts immediately came to mind..but in the past I had a range of small taps a tapped some alloy tubing for a similar use.
Helicoils work on the basis of cutting a larger hole and tapping threading them into metal. Then the fixing engages on the inner diameter.
If you can get those in the size and thread pitch you could glue them into the material with some thing like araldite and then use your fixing.

Practical problem solving..
Like my son fixing a slate house name plate into a mortar joint on a stone cottage this very week end!
Exactly what he did. Drill a BIG hole and glue nylon fixings in the hole and then screwed machine type bolts into the nylon which formed their own thread..
