Headlight switch

We have a dimming headlight switch, it dims the speedo and fuel guage when twisted, the problem is we think it might be faulty as the insrument lights always look dim.
Is there a way to check if its working as it should as its difficult to see the speedo in the dark.

Re: CV Boots Failing on IRS

Thanks for the update dg, it's worth the updated to make things stronger, the IRS gearbox is from a 1303s along with the arms, the one with the higher ratios, it looks like the bung in the centre of the output shaft has some damage, so thats possibly where the oil is coming from, maybe the drive sha...

Re: CV Boots Failing on IRS

Not quite sure where the oil is coming from, not from inside the boot although it has a small split in it, I have ordered another beetle CV and cover and see how long this lasts. I have some side movement about 20mm from the drive shaft, in and out of the CV's when the vans jacked and wonder if this...

Re: CV Boots Failing on IRS

We once again the CV near the gearbox has gone again, knocking noise from the O.S and some play in the joint. Is there a company out there that sell CV joints for the beetle gearbox as fitted to our split that will actually last lomger than a year. It's not as we have dramatically lowered the bus or...

Re: Spa 2017

Heres the first few shots our trip to Spa, we managed to get down to the tunnel without any drama and it looks like the vent scoops we made have helped to keep the engine cool, only time will tell, plenty of space in the train. got talking to the guy in the 4x4 behind us and he was going to Spain an...

Re: Spa 2017

Just been looking at routes to Spa and google maps have given us a few options, north onto the E40 & E42 and looks like its mostly motorway, then theres the A25-A27-E42 route, note sure what the best route would be, also the different A and E roads are, any advice if you have done the trip before.

Re: Single Garage Resto...

Neat job, looks like the same servo Jim sells, and all the fitings look to be in the same place, its one of the best conversions to make the brakes easier to use, and no longer having to stamp on the brakes and more feel on the pedal.

Re: Spa 2017

Thanks for the advice, if we can get as much info about the trip before we set off it will help us plan things, didn't even think about different fuel grades just expected to be able to get the same stuff we get here, estimated how much fuel we will need and got the breatherlisers, dont want a fine ...

Re: windscreen wiper conversion

Tried a good quality set from C&C and also Schofields, but not as good as we expected, I think some of the problem is keeping the blades on the glass and cleaning the screens, have also tried rain X.

Re: Steering rack conversion

The front mount is supported through the front vallence and attached to the mid support, we might even add some aditional bracing to ensure its not going to twist, up to now we have had no issues and lighter steering and smaller turning circle. http://i497.photobucket.com/albums/rr332/probikesecurit...

windscreen wiper conversion

After years of having wipers that just dont work properly, moving the water around instead of clearing the screen we decided to adopt a set from a classic mini, just having completed a mini resto we had a spare set of chrome 10 inch mini wiper blades and had a thought about how would these fit onto ...

Re: Steering rack conversion

Been using the new set up for a week now and happy to report it works, still need to get the centre pin replaced as theres a small amount of play in it, now looking to adjust the top mount in the cab to get the steering wheel closer, might even have a go at making it adjustable.
