Re: Gear Shift Rod Guide

Yep. - I think you're probsbly right - just needs a bit if adjustment, although I have played with it quite a bit!

I think I could fo with a new guide anyway as it appears to be a bit worn ...

Re: Rear disc brake conversion - EMPI

If you fit the rear discs you have to be careful to get the stopping force balanced properly by using the correct master cylinder. If you don't, it can lead to problems with wheels locking up which you don't really want! I'm pretty sure this is the case anyway! It kind of depends which front brakes ...

Re: Rear disc brake conversion - EMPI

I think you'll be fine with good front discs and rear drums unless you are seriously racing! Ironically though, With my van, I used a Porsche. 944 IRS parts, so it was just as easy for me to fit the rear discs and I have to admit, it is the best mod I made to my van! In this case I used the whole br...

Re: Gear Shift good then seems to misalign!?

well, i jacked it up last night and had a good look at all the connections and bolts. All bolts were tight, the rear coupling is new from a year ago - i took it off and it is fine still. The ball of the shifter has very slight play in the socket of the shift rod, but to be honest i`d expect a little...

Re: Gear Shift Rod Guide

great - cheers :)

The thing is when you nudge the shifter, the bit underneath moves aswell not really changing the adjustment!

Can anyone confirm for an earlier bus?

Re: Gear Shift Rod Guide

thanks - is that a definite definite then!? :D Is it the same for all buses?

I have a welder and tack welding it into place is no problem. I am finding it a bugger to adjust the shifter as when i move the base of the shifter side to side, the cup that the rod sits in just moves with it!

Re: Gear Shift good then seems to misalign!?

Cheers - yes, i thought the shift plate might have moved slightly, but it is pretty tight down. The berg shifter does have the same stop plate under the mount. I`ll double check all the conenctions on the rod tonight. Incidentally, the square headed bolts that normally have a wire through them - min...

Re: Gear Shift good then seems to misalign!?

Yes - the clutch adjustment is pretty much about right. I think if the clutch wasn`t adjusted properly, then i`d have trouble all the time and not just for a short period? I forgot to mention that i had the same problem a couple of weeks ago when testing the van - but this was with the stock shifter...

Gear Shift good then seems to misalign!?

Hello, I`ve just been out test driving my van for the first time properly with a new engine and a rebuilt gearbox. I`ve also just fitted a berg shifter. Before i went out, i set the shifter up and got all gears perfectly, nice gearshifts aswell. Drove around for about an hour - when i returned home,...

Gear Shift Rod Guide

Hi, I `ve been fitting a new shifter in my van with all new bushes, etc. It is pretty good, but i noticed that even with a new plastic bush in the guide underneath the cab floor, there is still some side to side (not up and down) movement - perhaps a 1 or 2mm. I guess it was run for quite a while wi...

Re: Engine bay painting

I`d have loved the time to strip the paint back and finish properly, but just didn`t have the time! I did my engine block in matt black, the tinware powder coated in a dark grey and the dynamo tin in black which i quite like. I used to have an engine with lambourghini orange tinware! It was that col...

Re: 1963 Sundial Split

Been a while since the update - not had much time, but been playing with the engine when i have chance to get the niggles sorted. I realised that i was only running on 3 cylinders - doh! The right carb had both its idle circuits blocked with some debris, so i cleaned them out and engine running pret...
