Re: Roof rack fabrication and clamps

not sure i really like the idea of welding it on - would like it to be removable :-) I have one at the moment which is bolted through the roof (!), but unfortunately it is too small and the bows going across rub on the roof and take the paint off. I quite liked the idea of making one up myself custo...

Roof rack fabrication and clamps

Hi, I`m considering making my own roof rack as i`m reasonably handy with a welder. does anyone know of a supplier for the clamps that will wrap around under the gutter to clamp it on? They don`t have to VW specific (in fact they`d probably be cheaper if they weren`t!) as lots of older cars use simil...

Re: Baby seat in the front of split grrr!

Oh, i just remembered aswell, my rear belts were too short for our front facing seat - some maxi cosi thing, but i just use the maxi cosi front facing seat in our golf now and have bought a britax prince seat from mothercare last week - the belt passes through the back of the seat and doesn`t wrap a...

Re: Baby seat in the front of split grrr!

I`m pretty sure if you can get a normal person in the seat with the 3 point belt secured in place, then it should fit the easybase unit aswell. Its only too short if you have to wrap it around the whole baby seat without using the base unit.

Good luck with the imminent arrival too!

Re: Baby seat in the front of split grrr!

i haven`t got ours to test as i`ve lent it to a friend as my son has grown out of it,but i think once it s clamped down, its the back (nearer the seat) thats meant to stay clamped - i think you could probably lift the front up as the belts are at the back. i just adjusted the leg so that it was the ...

Re: Baby seat in the front of split grrr!

I`ve used the maxi cosi cabriofix seat in our van in the back and in the back of the beetle, but i`ve had to use the easybase 2 base unit that it clicks into as the belts aren`t long enough. Once clamped by the belts, its firmly secured and not going anywhere. I`m sure i`ve also had the easybase 2 b...

Re: Getting valve cover gaskets to seal!

Ha - i have the john muir book aswell - just checked and in mine it says use quick drying glue on the cover side and then some wheel bearing grease on the head side. Doesn`t mention blue hylomar (which i have) - you must have a different edition! Mine is 19th edition :) I might give it a go with the...

Getting valve cover gaskets to seal!

Has anyone tips on getting valve cover gaskets to seal!? I have replaced them many times on different engines, but they always seem to dribble onto the heat exchanger below! I`ve always used the cork gaskets. I`ve tried bone dry installation, engine oil applied to the gasket, grease applied to the g...
