Re: CV Boots Failing on IRS

The Febi ones I fitted nearly four years ago still appear to be in good nick. Admittedly, I haven't done much mileage, but that doesn't seem to be the main issue. They certainly haven't perished or split of their own accord!

Re: Wheel identification

Looks like a Beetle smoothie, but might be early Type3. If it's 4.5J, it could well be Type3. Beetle steelies were usually 4J (I believe). It should be stamped somewhere on the flat area between the bolt holes.

Re: Disc brake conversion?

If you go for discs, you may be limited in the type/size of wheels you can use. As far as I know, the CSP kit uses a single pot caliper, whereas others are dual or 4-pot. I believe you have to use the CSP caliper that is intended for a 14" steel wheel to gain enough clearance for a stock 15" wheel. ...

Re: Fellows Speedshop rack and pinion anyone had one fitted.?

You could make up some beam-mounted support brackets for a rack fairly easily - a local fabrication outfit could do it for you if you specify the dimensions. The rack used in the Fellowes setup looks to be a pretty good one, ie. having a centre take-off to attach the stock track rods (minimises bump...

Re: Creative engineering IRS kit ride height

I'm pretty sure that a 3.5" drop is stated on the CE website, but I'm fairly sure that the kit they supply includes stepped spring plates not stock bay parts. If so, it would seem unlikely that you would achieve the desired drop with stock spring plates. However, I suggest you contact CE to confirm ...

Re: Type 4 2.0 dipstick marks

Can't help immediately as I'm a long way from my bus at the moment and will not have access until December. However, if you are not in a desperate hurry, I'll measure mine then and let you know. Alternatively, richandsue's suggested method should work fine. Remember that the Type 4 has an oil filter...

Re: Installing circlips on cv joints

I fitted a pair of BusBoys 'floating' axles when I converted to IRS, together with Trekker flanges and high-angle CV joints. These axles are only held by circlips at the extreme ends, there being no shoulders or other grooves in the axles on the other sides of the CV's. There are no cup or flat wash...
