Re: 1960 Single Cab

Looking forward to seeing those shiny black bits all bolted on.

Which of your 7 engines are you going to be fitting?

Re: Two port fan housing

If you have an aftermarket shroud you may not have all the correct fins inside it either, depending on which one you’ve bought. Best option is to try and buy an original one with the flaps. Second best option if you think you’ve got all the correct fins inside yours is to transpose a set of original...

Perfect, thanks.

Just got to find somewhere to buy individual seals now as I don’t need all 9

Re: Splitscreen cargo door rubbers

Checked on Schofields website today and they sell a Wolfsburg West kit which has seven pieces for the door and only top and bottom strips on the bus, which matches how mine have been profiled. Also anyone know where to source individual lengths because Schofields only sell complete kits and I’m only...

Re: Speedo LEDs ? Anyone used them?

To help with your actual question (I think you had a question didn’t you?) it might be worth contacting http://www.dynamoregulatorconversions.com/ and explaining your challenge. They sold me a special indicator relay which accounts for the fact that flash speed normally needs the correct bulb resist...

Re: Speedo LEDs ? Anyone used them?

If they go out halfway down then your resistance wire on your light switch may have a break in it. My old switch did that so I just bypassed it to run my dash lights on permanent full brightness until I can get my spare switch repaired. Worth piggy backing the 58b dash light wire onto the 58 headlig...

Re: Splitscreen cargo door rubbers

Thank you. Yes the top bus strip is trimmed to sit over the catch recesses. The ones down the outsides of the doors were also trimmed for the hinges which is how I knew that’s where they’d been. So I guess I can bin those two and put new ones down the sides of the bus opening instead. Sent from my i...

Erm, it looks like the originals in that photo were... black & white? [emoji23]

Re: Twin port conversion

Again, I wouldn’t count myself as an expert but in lieu of other replies so far... General verdict on the starter is it’ll be fine. There was a discussion a few days ago on this topic and the overall conclusion was that 6v starters (and fuel gauges) were fine on 12v. Hopefully someone else will chip...

Re: Twin port conversion

As far as I know the twin port switches to the doghouse cooler so you’ll need a different fan shroud and tinwear. You can get a conversion which allows you to put later doghouse cooler and larger fan onto a single port engine, but I’ve not seen anything which allows you to do the same the other way ...

Re: Twin port conversion

I can’t answer many of your specific questions but the 1600 single port gets very good reviews as a bus engine compared to the 1641 twin port. If that helps to keep to a single port?

Re: Splitscreen cargo door rubbers

Interesting, just got my old seals out yesterday and this is not the arrangement I had deduced from what is there! So do the seals at the top and bottom of each door go all the way across? Mine only go to half an inch short of the edges - as if to leave room for the downward seals - so presumably th...

Re: brazilian splitsceen v german

From previous discussions, the main points seem to be: 1. Quality of steel. Some say they have measured and find the steel thinner. Others say they have noticed no difference. There is no definitive info on the actual grade and quality of the steel but many say Brazilian is more friable when welding...

Re: Diamond cut vs slash cut Bumpers....

The yellowish one is ‘slash-cut’ (ie the ends look like a slash / ) and are good for 59-66. The grey ones are ‘diamond-cut’ (ie the ends look like half a diamond <> ) and are good for 66-67. The only complication is that early bay ones also have diamond-cut ends so look very similar to late split sc...

Well, a happy ending then. Check the rear bulbs and wiring and you’re good to go by the sounds of things. Don’t forget to tape off that brown wire so it doesn’t short on the dashboard. And then maybe one day you’ll find something not working and try attaching it again! Sent from my iPhone using Tapa...
