Re: Slowing down! brakes?

Hi, I'm not sure about the cylinder issue but I fitted a servo to my van about two years ago and it transformed the braking (all drum, 1776 + reduction boxes set up). Though not actually increasing the basic braking power available, previous to fitting it I could never stand on the pedal hard enough...

Re: My First VW !! Mid Life Crisis " Now painted "

Just caught up with the completion of Gerry's paintwork. I know that everyone else has said it already but just had to say it too, "Absolutely Fantastic Work. Great Stuff!"

Re: Gas bottle installation

Hi, As per other comments above, the gas bottle in my Canterbury Pitt sits in a wooden box in the left hand corner of the engine bay. Hope the attached pic is useful. There isn't any pipework to the living space so I just take it out and move it to the floorspace by the cooker cargo door when in use...

Re: Brake pipe root ?

Hi Mark, On my '66 van the brake pipe goes through the lower, slightly more inboard round hole - picture taken after having refitted the pipe towards the end of fitting my brake servo - well worth doing if you were considering doing this too. As a while ago, I'd be happy to drive the van around if u...

Re: My First VW !! Mid Life Crisis

Hi Mark, if I can be of any help in the future to help show where bits go I'd be happy to pop around with my '66 Canterbury Pitt.

Re: Wheel bolt size for a 1965

Hi,

When I refitted original wheels to my '66 van I picked up a good used set of wheel bolts from Mega-Bug.

Re: Pressurised fuel tank and escaping fuel

Hi, I had a similar problem a year or two ago when after stopping on a hot day I spotted fuel dripping out where the fuel feed pipe met the petrol pump. Removing the fuel cap depressurised the tank and stopped the leak. My van's problem, and I don't know why it hadn't shown up before, was that the v...

Dynamo / Voltage Regulator

Hi All, I've just replaced my van's dynamo with a new remanufactured one. This works fine apart from the charging warning light remaining on at idle speed which it didn't used to do with the old dynamo. The original Bosch dynamo was labelled 14V 30A whereas the new one is labelled 12V 30A. I'm guess...

Re: Time-Sert Insert Advice Please

Hi,

Thanks very much for your reply. I did think myself that the head might well be too hot.

I'll try and see if I can check the head temp but, leave well alone, I think, is the best way to go. At least for now.

Kind regards,

Peter

Time-Sert Insert Advice Please

Oops - just posted this in the wrong section so am posting it again here. Hi All, I'd be grateful for advice regarding locking in Time-Sert thread inserts. One of the spark plugs in my van's 1776 engine comes out complete with a Time-Sert insert. This only takes a fraction of a turn so I guess that ...

Time-Sert Insert Advice Please

Hi All, I'd be grateful for advice regarding locking in Time-Sert thread inserts. One of the spark plugs in my van's 1776 engine comes out complete with a Time-Sert insert. This only takes a fraction of a turn so I guess that the insert wasn't locked in properly when fitted. The engine runs fine so ...
