Re: shift rod bushes

Hi Lee, My rear shift rod fits in a housing (pipe) that runs from the front to the rear of chassis, the bushes stop the rear rod from knocking against the housing and support the movement of the rod when changing gear. I just located the bushes onto the rod and put the rod back in it's housing ... M...

Re: shift rod bushes

The shift rod bushes, I would imagine slot onto the rear shift rod.

My 66 rear rod has some small holes, which the bushes slot onto ...

Re: Front Beam Options Technical Topic

I'm thinking of going this way, after removing my front beam.

Take at look at this - viewtopic.php?f=6&t=73960

Any thoughts from fellow SSVC dubbers?

Re: Shift Rod Removal - 1996 Splitty

Glad I took the beam off, it's got some real tin worm below the top shock mounts :-( http://www.cloud4mations.com/editor/popups/getImage.aspx?ThumbNail=N&id=1127 http://www.cloud4mations.com/editor/popups/getImage.aspx?ThumbNail=N&id=1128 Looks like it's beyond repair? Concerned that the top shock m...

Re: Shift Rod Removal - 1996 Splitty

The front coupler screw head sheered off, so drilled it out carefully. Did up the rear coupler. With a friend, lots more penetrating fluid and molegrips got the rear rod off the front coupler and managed to get the front rod out - thanks Marcus! The coupler had to be heated off the front rod, it too...

Re: Shift Rod Removal - 1996 Splitty

Thanks Split999

I'll take your advice and do up the rear coupler to help remove the front rod section.

I completely missed the front coupler - loads of crust on the rod!

Hopefully it will come apart ...

Shift Rod Removal - 1996 Splitty

I'm taking the front beam off as it needs a bit of welding and a good clean up. Got everything out off the way between the two torison beams - except ... Having trouble removing the gear shift rod. Undid the gear stick, rear coupling, but I can't slide the shift rod back enough - off the front pin b...

Re: Swing Axle vs IRS Technical Topic

Thanks for your reply Mike, your on the right track mate! Massive thanks to VWJim who helped me track down the problem, the pressure plate needed to be changed. It had a collar in the middle of the fingers and was 10mm thicker than the correct pressure plate which had no collar, just fingers....

Re: Swing Axle vs IRS Technical Topic

I've done an IRS conversion using a 69 Bay rear end, A Arms, Hubs etc. I'm using AH code beetle gearbox and CE chassis legs. Everything has gone really well until I tried to bolt the engine back onto the different gearbox. It was pretty tight getting it back on and after starting it up, the clutch w...
