Re: Good make of beam centre pin kit -1967 Splitscreen

Thanks good tips, yes seen that write up - it’s excellent.

There seems to be a wide price range with amazon doing them for £25 and other VW par type places £45.

I presume a fixed 24mm reamer is better than an adjustable one? Are there aother 24mm bushes that I might need to do in the future?

Good make of beam centre pin kit -1967 Splitscreen

Just looking at replacing the centre pin on the beam of my 1967 splitty. From other posts etc the part number seems to be VW 211498171. Febi do a kit - 01151 . Anyone used this kit, any good, easy to fit? Do I need to drill a hole for the grease point once fitted? I’ll need to get a 24mm hand reamer...

Re: Good Tyre size for 14 inch wheels?

Thanks Phil that’s about 64.5 inches which is about an inch higher than I’m running at the moment just what I’m after. Just looking at makes - lots available in this size for vans etc with 102 loading. If your pleased with the results I”d be interested in what make and rating you went for. Cheers Paul

Re: Good Tyre size for 14 inch wheels?

Thanks sounds good. Did the fronts rub on the inner arch at all?

I’d also be interested in the height from the gutter rail to the ground if possible.

Thanks

Good Tyre size for 14 inch wheels?

Ok I Need to replace the rear tyres on my 1967 splity and I'm interested in alternatives. Its been lowered, with a SA at the rear currently on 185/60 R14s but looking to go up a size so looking for a sensible widely available tyre that will fit and take the load (lots of speed bumps around here)! :(...

A 67 Bus with dropped spindles and SA on the rear. I fitted Gaz Coiilovers on the front with red9design top bracket and really pleased with the results. Re: 1967 Splitscreen Ride Height - Help Please!

Just an update, went for the gaz coilers on the front. Had to fit the Red9Design top bracket to get the clearance but overall really pleased with the results. For the front I used: Shocks: 2 x Gaz 16" Open, 10.5" Closed Length Coilover Shock (160/105/B12) Springs: 2 x 1.9", 140 Rate, 10" Free Length...

Re: Splitscreen 1641 Running Hot - Timing and Mixture Adjustment?

Thanks Dougie, agreed from what I've read 7.5 btdc seems to be a good start point. Have already adjusted using the strobe to 7.5 'ish' and the revs increased by about 200rpm and a smoother idle. Just taken it for a test drive up a decent hill and no pinking and more power so I think I'll leave it at...

Splitscreen 1641 Running Hot - Timing and Mixture Adjustment?

I've got a relatively new recon 1641 thats done about 3000 miles. I've just fitted a VDO oil temp gauge with the sender from the Oil pressure relief valve. Recently I've done a few motorway runs at 60mph (on the gps) / 3500rpm and the temp gets quite high to about 240F (checked with independent ther...

Re: Best Cable routing split charge system

Yeh it’s also got the cable securing tabs for the rear light”s cables, also it keeps the cable short compared with going round the back of the engine - can’t think of a good reason to go round the back of the engine? Maybe they just wanted to sell me 4m of cable vs 2m!

Hi just fitting a voltage sense split charge system with 2nd battery and I’m after advice on routing the cable between the batteries. I had planned to route it over the rear door where the lighting cables go but the guys at simply splitcharge suggested routing it round the back of the engine? What d...

Rust treatment - Future welding?

The underneath of my splitty has the usual surface rust and had a few welding repairs over the years. I want to stop it getting worse until I take it off the road to strip it down and have the welding sorted properly. I try and avoid the rain and it’s stored in a garage but want to take it to Cornwa...

Re: Alternator Help Please

Hi just reassembling and noticed there is a large gap between the fan and the backing plate. The manual says .07 inch (2mm) but my gap is about 10mm! The is a large spacer on the back of the alternator that if it wasn't there the fan hub would rub against the back of the alternator. Is a 10mm gap ac...
