Re: Straight axle type 3 rear brakes

Hi Animal and Jim, thank you for your replies, sorry I've not replied not been back on the van for a few days. The diy has taken over recently in lockdown! I'm going to change the extension tubes round as I've got them on the ends and will double check the cable lengths, so thanks a lot for this. I ...

Re: Engine Build Advice

I built a 2109 a few years ago and it ran a similar looking oil system. Mine was out at the bottom through a filter and then a remote cooler and back into the gallery at the top. You're right though, nicer fitting could be used and I'd recommend screw fit pipes to help cut down leaks, rather than pu...

Re: Straight axle type 3 rear brakes

Hi Animal, I've got the extension tubes tacked on but only difference I'd say is I've still got the early cables fitted. Do you think that might make them too long? The link say for 64 - 67 cables. My main concern at the moment is that T3 drums dont fit properly with the current beetle backing plate...

Straight axle type 3 rear brakes

Apologies in advance if this is a re-post or been covered else where but I don't seem to be able to find anything specific on my query. I've been trying without much luck to get my straight axle rear brakes sorted out on an early split ('58). After converting to beetle brakes, machining the drums an...

Re: Gear stick coming out of socket

Sorted it. Changed the front section of the linkage, maybe 3/4mm difference in it which threw it out too far.
Thanks for your help.

Re: Gear stick coming out of socket

Ha, thanks! No never left or right just forwards and backwards. I don't think there are any repro parts - but you could be on to something perhaps with sloppy parts, being on the linkage. Thinking about it the front section has been welded so it could be that which throws out the length. Also, how i...

Gear stick coming out of socket

Hello everyone, I have an early split with gear stick in the 'further back' position however the floor has been modified in the past and although I can select each gear, if I push too hard on the stick when selecting the gear stick pops out of the socket of the selector rod. I was wondering if any o...

Re: Cant get the engine to go in

Thanks for your help, took a mm or so off the bell housing and it's gone in. Oh and a slight burr on the clutch plate I noticed in my 'trial and error' troubleshooting session.

Nothing fancy with the front mount by the way.

Cheers
Chris

Re: Cant get the engine to go in

vwjim - dont know if i've misunderstood your question but with the exception of swapping the nosecone, my original splitty box had no additional mounts, i.e. the small ones on the nose and the two big bolts on the forks by the engine

Re: Cant get the engine to go in

Ive started clearancing but without taking the flywheel off its a bit of a guessing game. I've started on a template to give me a an idea. If all the 12V flywheels are the same size and I assume that the Beetle it came out of was 12V why won't it just fit straight in? Or is that the probglem - the g...
