Re: 123ignition tune+

Hi I'm going to fit my tune+ this weekend to a 1600, fitted with 36 Drla dellorto's. Am I right in thinking that I put the engine at top dead centre on number 1 cylinder, remove the old distributor, put the 123 in its place, move the body to a convenient place for wiring and vacuum pipe, turn until...

Re: Help with family quiz dispute

I always thought T1 beetle, T2 bus.... but to support this argument VW part numbers always start with the model number.... if you pick up a part at an auto jumble and the part number starts with a 1 it’s a Beetle part, 2 = bus, 3 = type 3....

Re: Remote oil filter - csp adaptor - anyone used this ?

Excellent write Who.Me... my tip, as Who.Me said is buy a oil pump puller tool... it will make your life significantly easier if your not splitting the case, you’ll have the pump out within 30 secs with one... (you won’t without!) Do you know what engine you have, 1500, 1600, single port/twin, as in...

Re: GAZ Adjustable Shocks / OG Shocks

Yes... I’ll second Koni Reds too.... still oil filled like OG but also adjustable. Trouble with gas shocks is they try to extend the suspension all the time, due to the pressure in them and the ride can be bouncy and harsh, the normal oil filled shocks don’t do this, they just damp.

Re: 123ignition tune+

Hi Jim.... yeah, that graph really shows the difference, the only thing about the Mallory curve is it starts quite low... will try it, but might bump up the initial advance a touch, maybe so it starts at 10/12 etc. Maybes even more, gotta watch hot starting if the idle advance goes too far apparentl...

Re: 123ignition tune+

Just created an Excel Spreadsheet to help graph the curves against each other - quite interesting actually - shows the 034 has a very sedate advance, and the Mallory mechanical advance curve (32adv) advised by Paul F above is a nice steady smooth curve (grey, grey springs) that's all in quite early!...

Re: 123ignition tune+

Hi Bluethunder... As you don’t have any vac advance it doesn’t really matter, but you need way more final advance than 24. You can try my figures for Centrifugal Advance only, just leave the Map curve as zero/unplugged... This will emulate an 009 distributor (no vac advance) Or try Paul F ‘s figures...

Re: 123ignition tune+

Hi guys, Bought a Tune+ from VWJims bulk buy.... here are my findings/curves so far... Jim has put some curves on the 1st page, but I’m not in full agreement with those (sorry Jim! 😆) . Using Jim’s/Paul F’s curve you never get more than 32 degrees total advance - (24 mech, 8 vac) I’m replacing an 03...

Re: spare tyre behind front seats?

I have a full size Mohawk 185/80 R14 Van tyre behind my bench seat also - fits no problem.... seems odd - do you have the clamp on to hold it to the bulkhead? - is the top of bench seat hitting the tyre, or at the bottom?

Re: Engine dies after a few miles

Leave the tank cap off? may be fuel vacuum in the tank...been known before.
Could also be a faulty condenser on the Dizzy.

Re: Steering box

The adjuster hasn't been done up too tight has it - as there is a tight spot in the centre of the box anyway by design - its in the straight ahead position to make as much of the float out as possible when straight ahead - try backing the adjuster off a touch - does the notchiness disappear then? if...
