Leave the tank cap off? may be fuel vacuum in the tank...been known before.
Could also be a faulty condenser on the Dizzy.

Re: Steering box

The adjuster hasn't been done up too tight has it - as there is a tight spot in the centre of the box anyway by design - its in the straight ahead position to make as much of the float out as possible when straight ahead - try backing the adjuster off a touch - does the notchiness disappear then? if...

Re: Vague Gear Change

ref the Floor Plate flange question - as I understand it early buses did not have the second flange - later ones did - but I also believe they are fully interchangeable. The most important part is the bigger ramped flange of the RH side - as this is the reverse stop - you have to push the gearlever ...

Re: Julian Collinge. Very sad news.

That is truly heartbreaking news Dougie - Julians/Monkey Knuts resto thread is absolutely fantastic, and he put his heart & soul into the resto of his Bus and its Devon Interior - everything was done to the highest possible standard and attention to detail - and all meticulously detailed on the Foru...

Re: Glazed drum brakes and what to do?

Hi Gertjan, Normally you get glazed brakes from lightly riding the pedal, or over-adjusted brakes so they are dragging all the time - this heats up the shoes/dums and makes them very smooth & shiny - can also cause squeal/poor stopping power. Ideally remove the drums and attack the drum braking surf...

Re: Ignition power loss

Also lots of issues with the sprung tabs in the fuse box - try and clean up the little hole where the nub of the fuse fits into - this needs to be clean & shiny bright, and carefully bend the sprung arms to increase the tension on the fuses.
Very common issue!

Re: Vague Gear Change

Morning All Again, The only other thing I've noticed while driving the '57 is it's vague gear change. There are no noises or jumping out of gear so I'm not concerned much there, but finding the gears is too much like stirring my porridge in the morning. There is not really any definite 'neutral', a...
