Re: Camperjam 2019

It was a fantastic turn out for the Show n Shine.... I was really expecting to see an ever falling aircooled attendance and it be taken over by the T5 crew like Busfest but was gladly surprised to see a full T1 class turnout! Great Show 👍

Re: Engine stuttered like running out of fuel...

I would say either coil failing when hot, or electronic ign module failing I had similar last year - it would misfire a couple of times then carry on, a bit later same thing, until it got to the point where it would cut out and not restart - leave it for a few mins it would start and run OK. It was ...

Great update Mark - starting to look really good!

Re: Brake switch

I changed mine with no issues on my single circuit MC - was fully expecting to have to bleed the brakes - but nothing came out when I removed the switch (maybe one tiny drip) and I banged the new one in within a second or two and it was perfectly fine.

Try FBI or Desi Yates (on Facebook) - all the big auto-jumbler traders will have all the parts secondhand - Desi will for sure.

Re: Steering - how good should it be?

Get an assistant to rock the steering wheel in the freeplay area when straight ahead, look underneath at the pitman arm (arm that comes out of the steering box) it *should* only be turning/rotating.... ANY up/down movement is the pitman arm output bushes worn... it’s very common and relatively easy ...

Just wondering, what is the max revs and cruising revs of a vw block?

Cheers
Revs - absolute max revs is 5k and when cruising max 4k (if you have any degree of mechanical sympathy and are not deaf you wouldn't get past 4k anyway!)

Re: Overhaul

Now you've got it apart.... Fit new shells if the crank looks OK - maybe a Scat C25, or Engle 110 Cam - fit a new oil pump (or at least look at the cover plate and blueprint it) & bolt it back together - leave the deep sump off.
Circa £200 all in...

Re: Starting issue

I'd say check your battery terminals are clean & tight, check the earth strap to the body by the battery, check the braided earth strap on the gearbox mounting under the bus, undo and remake the starter connections on the solenoid on top of the starter motor and finally it could be a ropey ign switc...

Re: Hard Brake Pedal - Dreadful Braking

Yes - it sounds like your calipers are probably partially seized - and looking at your disks, have been for a while - probably through lack of use. Has your bus been standing idle a for a long period? I'd see what adjustment the rear brakes need - and take the front calipers off and have a good look...
