Dot I've got a 66 bus with standard running gear, drums etc but with a 1776 engine and it is perfect to me, even fully loaded hills are no problem. My 60 SC is running the same setup as you but with a 1600 TP with twin 34 ICTs, it'll happily sit at 60 for hours and has power for the hills, obviously...

You can usually get quite a quick response from type.approval@vwg.co.uk on the build date, type and country shipped to if you email them with the vin number. If it is in the UK you need to know if it is on NOVA and what paperwork comes with it, registration in the UK is fairly simple process, althou...

Any good engine shop would be able to rebuild but the cost may be prohibitive. I’d look for a replacement from a damaged polo/a1/Skoda/Seat.

Is the roof supported on the middle wall?

Almost certainly the wall is providing lateral support to the rear retaining wall, although you may be able to provide the same support with a buttress, for piece of mind I’d get a structural engineer to take a look.
