Re: Welding

Primer was taken off on the bits that needed welding. You can indeed tell by the sound when it’s a good weld. I put the jacking point in today. Looks like a dogs dinner lol welding thick to thin metal is hard. A good grind and it’s passable though. Bit of seam sealer and nobody will see my handy wor...

Welding

Having taken the plunge and bought a welder my first job is a new outrigger and jacking point. I destroyed the old outrigger (don't ask) it took an age to cut the old one out, with the van up on axle stands there's not a lot of room to play around under there. It's all very well practising welding o...

Outrigger welding

In an incident that we won't be talking about I have crushed the middle left outrigger on my bus. It's pulled away from the inner chassis rail and is badly misshapen. The chassis rail is in very good shape as is all the surrounding metal I've been toying with the idea of getting a mig welder for a w...

Re: Pearl white paint

It should be a good match to OG paint when OG paint was new. It won't be an exact match due to fading and discolouration. It's also difficult to get a great match when mixing up small quantities (rattle can for instance) If you have a compressor then get the paint and thinner and do it that way. It'...

CV joint help

I am replacing one CV joint and re-greasing the other three.
I have a split with IRS conversion

The CV joint on the gearbox side is smaller than the outer one. I've been confusing myself by looking at bay window CV joints (which aren't handed)
Do I need a Beetle CV joint for the gearbox side?

Front hub nuts (Locking)

As requested here are some photos of the hub nuts Genuine on the left (from Coolair That's the price of a pair BTW) Repro on the right from Wolfsburg Resto's The repro ones do look to have a flat recess and it doesn't look like it will bind on the side. However, at almost twice the price of the genu...

Re: Front Wheel bearings

Just ordered a pair of second hand, genuine ones from Coolair. I'll send the repro ones back when they get here. Thanks for the heads up How much are they from Coolair? I've been caught out by other traders using OG images then sending out repro. It says second hand and genuine VW on the listing. I...

Thanks for that. I'll have a good look at them and send them back if they are no good.
