***Sahara Bug Rally 2020***

Evening everyone, We`ve had an invite to support Veterans and raise money towards PTSD sufferers with a Sahara Bug Rally. The basis is form a team, buy a Bug, prep it for the Desert, get a minimum sponsorship, take :bounce: the original Dakar route and drive 1000 miles! Easy! Sounds like an aircoole...

Re: E10 fuel on its way

The super unleaded burns at a higher temperature, so I`m unsure of the implications for our cylinder heads long term. Supermarket fuels tend to have a different mix of additives to the big companies and we have lots of issues with this. What the long term effects of the higher ethanol content will h...

Re: Best bodywork polish / wax and polishing up Fuchs alloys

Hi Dom, Provided the wash n wax is meguiars brand, there should n`t be an issue. Test a small area first, ie at the rear under the rear lights so its inconspicuous to be certain. A further note, wash the van and run your hand gently over an area you`ve washed. If its as smooth as running your finger...

Re: Best bodywork polish / wax and polishing up Fuchs alloys

Hi Dom, to echo most of whats been said above, if its paintwork thats not recent, ie 6 months or older, then I would use meguiars. I always used either Autoglym or Mer for the shine until a local valeter recommended Meguiars. I used the quick detailer and it removed all the polish that id` spent mon...

Re: IRS , which is best gearbox code to use?

I`ve got an AT `box in my `66, with 1641 running single carb with oversized main jet.
Pulls fine in all gears but gets breathless in top on a long incline, although I`ve never had a problem with heat when dropping back into 3rd.

Always shocking when you hear that some scumbag feels it`s their right to take someone elses pride and joy.
Really hope it`s recovered soon and those responsible are tortured slowly for infinity.
I`ll keep an eye open around Grantham/Newark areas.

Re: Damaged tyre beads...

Chris, the rubber solution is only a temporary repair. You can`t be sure that no further damage has been caused internally. Its gutting I know and I`ve been there with my own tyres in the past, but I can`t but help come down on safetys side. Sooner 80 quid a pop than an injury to a loved one or dama...

Re: Damaged tyre beads...

Chris, just seen your post re the damged tyre beads. I run a tyre depot and the damage shown is caused by the fitting head on the machine being too far away from the lip of the rim- probably the fitter not wanting to damage or scrape the rim and being overcautious. the second tyre damage is from a t...
