Re: AWD 964/911 Bus

Your deep in now, looking good!
I thought that bit of support steel in the stern was called a reverse dihedral lunge scabbard but I am in California.

What is your projected stance?

Re: AWD 964/911 Bus

Hello Mo, it is a 944 transaxle as I am running the 3.2 mid-engine, it will make more sense if you check out my build thread, and thanks for the kind remarks!

Re: AWD 964/911 Bus

IMG_5856.jpg Basically made my own, fabricated the trans-axle end and used a Porsche 996 cable shifter (around $75) not pretty but plan on covering it with a aluminum cowling. IMG_5857.jpg IMG_6112.jpg depending on how low you plan to go there may be room for a coil-over shock without the pivot mou...

Re: AWD 964/911 Bus

Glad to see you back at your project! There is a 964 AWD powered split on the Speedhunter website if you have not seen it before, don't know if there is a build thread somewhere, would be nice to see as the feature they ran does not show any mechanicals. I had to go custom cable shift on my mid-engi...

Re: Porsche 2.7 engine Or subaru Diesel engine?

My question would be what driving experience you are looking for- those engines seem to be at the opposite spectrum performance wise. I have not personally run a 2.7 in a bus but the low horsepower and torque would have me sell it and move to a 3.2 or 3.6. I drive a 3.2 Porsche powered bus daily and...

Re: ride quality and handling issues again....

I am with vw Jim on his prognosis, you need more spring rate then set your static ride height were you want it, then reset your toe-camber at that height. I am also running a custom ball joint, 4" narrowed beam with 16/215/45 tires. I am using the narrowed bay torsions with Bilstein coil-overs and #...

Re: Porsche 944 seats in bus

I had a pair of early non-power 944 leather seats in my daily driver 67 double cab for a few years, I really liked them. much better support and you won't snap your neck off in the slightest shunt. The stock frame rails are not useable for mounting and I cut mine off so as to mount the seat low and ...

Re: Who's running Brembo's on their bus then?

Funny thing timing is….Was just this morning driving the d.c. down the hill in my country setting and coming up the hill a car left turns in front of me to visit the local organic coffee shop. I hit the brakes and horn HARD! Pretty much as much as the cold Brembo’s and tires could muster. Missed. Th...

Re: Who's running Brembo's on their bus then?

I have been daily driving my double cab with Porsche Brembos from a 89 944S2 for about a year. My impression is that they are more than a street driven bus needs. The stopping power with my set-up is very good, I could only really test their limits after I installed a four point harness, I tried to ...

Re: AWD 964/911 Bus

You mean dauntingly torque-tastic!
With all the effort going into your build you will have a engine that will give you the proper push to make it worth it.
Good choice, fab on.

Stephen.

Re: AWD 964/911 Bus

The 3.6 swap into early 911's is a popular choice, the early carbed 911 are not much more complex as a split bus. I am sure you have been searching the Pelican sight for swap info, but here is a link that might be helpful http://instant-g.com/Products/36Conversion/index.html I agree the appearance o...

Re: AWD 964/911 Bus

Sounds like a good plan, keep all the smallish bits stock Porsche and the big simple fab stuff custom, trick it into thinking it is still in a 911! I have not checked out the 964 front suspension but I assumed it was strut based, which puts it about half way thru the front seats, not super comfortab...

Re: AWD 964/911 Bus

Looks like a entertaining build, I also saw your thread over at Pelican Parts. I like the sub frame rear suspension, I looked into going that direction myself but decided to keep it simple (relatively!). What are the front plans? I would assume you would use the stock Porsche a.w.d. hubs and fabrica...

Re: Help with beam setup, bodywork etc for 16" boxster wheels.

bobley, looks like you have it as narrow as possible in the back without going to steel 944 arms or swapping in a 944 torsion housing as I have. I am surprised there is not more room with the set-up as you have it. I never ran that particular bit of parts though I have had in possesion all three 944...

Re: Help with beam setup, bodywork etc for 16" boxster wheels.

bobley, The last picture with the 968(et55) wheels is my current set up (not running yet) the front set-up is the previous 4" wagenswest beam (bay arms) with 944 S2 spindles (turbo spec.) welded 2.5" drop spindles and the 7" wheels have 215/40 /16 Toyo TR-1, this is with the 1.5 spacers on each side...
