Re: Broken Down

When did they last have a run out in it? It might be the colder weather causing carb icing. I had similar issues years ago when I first got my bus - it has the same cheap pancake air filter on it, which caused carb icing after around 10 minutes of driving. It wouldn't start straight away, bit would ...

Re: T2 AS code engine for T1 kombi?!

Type 1 is a Beetle and Type 2 is a van/bus/kombi etc.

However, a T1 is the first version of the Type 2 - i.e. Splitscreen. T2 is a Baywindow and so on, up to the current T6 Transporter.

So an AS code could be from a Type 2 T2, and will fit a Type 2 T1.

Re: Steering issues...

Get under the back and check all the bolts connecting the spring plate to the reduction boxes (or bearing housing if SA). I had an issue where two threads had stripped in an RGB and the other two had loosened - this caused the RGB to rotate slightly when under power and then rotate back again liftin...

Re: Steering issues...

When you say wander is it a vague feeling in the steering, or more like it's pulling to one side or another? Does it do it constantly when coasting off power, or just once when you lift off?

Re: Annual Rally & AGM 3rd to 6th May 2019

Quick hijack to save creating another thread. I'm heading down on Saturday to deliver an engine to another member. Due to work/family commitments I can't do it any other time for the foreseeable future, and my van will be off the road for a good few months until I sort another engine out. Just check...

Interested in this. Do you have the cable / plug that connects to the alternator and regulator?
Sorry Jim,

This is pending (via PM).

Various items for Vic Farm. Steering box, alternator, headlining, dynamo, sun visors, small bits

I'm dropping an engine off at Vic Farm on Saturday evening and will bring any of the following if there's interest: LHD steering box out of my '67. Taken out when I had box raise done, and had a spare one shortened beforehand to save time. There was a little bit of play, but not excessive. PENDING O...

Re: Stripped spring plate thread

Jim. Thanks for that. Can I ask one more question. Having been out this morning I notice the hole is about 40mm deep but the bolt is only about 25mm. The threads hold a little at present but not enough. However could I use a longer bolt so that it reaches the better threads also further into the ho...

Re: Vintage Speed exhaust fitting

The metal side of the braided ring might actually be separate: https://www.paruzzi.com/photo/mega1001.jpg Either way, the braided side goes into the "cup" of the short tube, and metal side sits in the clamp. When the whole thing is tightened up the clamp pushes the ring into the "cup" using the meta...

Re: Complete Twin Weber 40 IDF set-up for sale, reduced!

Hi Dave,

Do the spindles still move over the full range, and just a bit stiff? Also are the manifolds for a type 1 engine or type 4? Just look a bit short compared to most type 1 manifolds.

Cheers,

Re: Engine/Clutch Questions

Your old pressure plate has the circular pad fitted to work with the old style release bearing. Your new pressure plate is the same - no need for a new pressure plate. The circular pad on your old one comes off and fits to the new pressure plate. You'll need to take the pressure plate off the old en...

Re: RE: Re: Facet Fuel Pump

Hi Guys Thanks for the info ! I spoke to Pete From VW Aircooled Works who is very good with fuel systems. He recommended I change the fuel motor for the rotary one from VW Heritage, which I have now fitted. Its so much quieter !. I'll look at the wiring again based on your diagrams. I have also fit...
