Re: rubbish fit SP Manifold

All of the repro manifolds are TERRIBLE, not fit for purpose. I looked for a couple of years and eventually found a NOS one which I paid quite a bit for. Best bet is to try and find a good used original one, but they pretty much all have blocked pre-heat pipes and they are an absolute pain (near imp...

Re: Correct wheel size for Brazilian Split

185R14 is the same as 185/80R14 Ah okay thanks - so pretty much the same rolling circumf as 195/75/R14 - which seems to be a common choice Still interested in any opinions on 15" vs 14" rims to start off with - given that I already have one and half sets of good 14" rims there'd have to be some ben...

Re: Help needed

If I had £26K to spend, I`d not be considering an import from Uraguay. I don`t even need to see the bus to know for sure it will not be the best bus you could purchase for that kind of money. Have you looked at the for sale section of this forum?

Re: Correct wheel size for Brazilian Split

The tyres you have are low profile, so that doesn`t help. A 195/80/14 is about as close in rolling radius as you can get to the original 7.00/14 crossplies. The 15" wheels with 195/80/15 tyres will be a huge improvement and I think will give you the exact gearing that you are looking for (it`s what ...

Re: New garage/workshop project for the Zombi Kombi!

Hi Mike, I`ve got pretty much the exact same set up as you (but with 30 pict carb, non Brazilian) and get about 33mpg when steady cruising, so something has to be amiss with your set up to use so much more fuel?

Re: 1962 Combi for sale advice ?

Danbury restoration means nothing of consequence, as they are not (to my knowledge) vehicle restorers. They convert vans into motorhomes - i.e install interiors. So no, this is not "proof of quality" as far as the bodywork/mechanical side of things goes. If you are looking for originality then this ...

Re: RHD 1966 Mango Green Camper For Sale

I am interested to know what value you place on the bus once it has had the interior removed to allow two new sills and a cab step welded, then (realistically) both sides completely resprayed to sucessfully conceal these new repairs, underneath resealed, then interior refitted etc?

Re: 59 11window,LHD, wedding layout/blank canvas!!

Thanks Phil, That's the downside of moving 130 odd miles, losing the convenience of long standing relations with people who know buses. Not found anybody yet , not been down here long. Hopefully someone on here will be able to recommend somebody in and around the New Forest. I think "VW JIM" lives ...

Would strongly recommend you applying your above suggestion as well as painting the deck lid to match - your bus would consequently be far more appealing to the buying public

Re: reduction boxes

Hi all......I'm almost 3yrs into my project 58 single cab and need to know if I can lower her and keep the reduction boxes? Is this possible. If not do I go IRS or straight axle? I'm confused?? Cheers You can but it will be unpleasant. The rear wheels will be cambered at a horrible angle and will s...

Re: reduction boxes

have you noticed good improvements from removal and lowering? Chris :D There are no "improvements" to be had from removing the reduction boxes. If the vehicle could be improved by removing them then VW would never have gone to the trouble of fitting circa 4 million units in the first place. The onl...
