Re: Giving your bus a human name

I have shut off "Morrisons" ears to all of this nonsense.

Imagine not thinking something metal shouldn't be named or have feelings.

Re: SICK

And dope is the new "sick" apparently (the word as opposed to the almost illegal substance, so I am told).

Re: Semaphore fitting

Agree, okay to open carefully and bottom wire is dash light from memory. A magnetic screwdriver to hold the screw on the end whilst you slot it in is also useful.

Re: Reduction box - refurb/fix

Quick update, managed to do the strip down with the reduction box still attached to the axle a bit of a pain but not that much hassle. The top inner bearing came out with a puller bought off eBay for £14, a better option than trying to track down the original tool! The tip to weld a nut onto the plu...

Re: Reduction box - refurb/fix

Brilliant will give that a go. The reduction box is stripped down as much as it can without removing it from the gearbox or with the bottom shaft removed. Will try doing as suggested but with it all in place (not the broom handle bit!) as I don't want the hassle of taking it off the gearbox and thin...

Re: Reduction box - refurb/fix

Thanks Nik, I am going to try and get the job finished this weekend. I have a blind bearing puller on order so hopefully top bearing will be kind and pop out after a big of tugging. Quick question, is it possible to remove the reduction box from the van without having to separate the rear axle from ...

Reduction box - refurb/fix

Firstly sorry if this is a topic that has been done before. I noticed some play in my rear wheel and thought it was bearing related, bus has been driving fine with only an occasional whine from the reduction box. Cut a long story short, I have stripped down the offending rear end side so that I have...

Re: busfest

I am likely to have a ticket available as I now have to do a business trip that weekend instead of enjoying myself (just waiting confirmation of dates from the boss).

It is one ticket for the SSVC camping area (I think entitles you to bring a guest), PM me if you are interested.

Re: Where do these go?

I have seen them on the rear wing of a bug but also used on their decklids as well if that is any help. I think the idea of the rear wing badge is to try a recreate the American dealer plaques that some bugs used to have fitted from new.

Re: Any one got a clue??

Bambus parcel shelf is a rare accessory for bugs and sought after by bug owners I would say.

Very similar to the one I had fitted to my split window bug so I would think it is early to mid fifties if it is an original one. Price wise somewhere in the region of £250(?).

Re: 6v or 12v

Usually it is down to how much you are using the bus and whether you have a good 6 volt bus or one that causes you headaches each time you try to start it or turn the lights on! I have owned both for many years, my van is original 12 volt and my beetles have all been 6 volt. None of them ever given ...

Re: Correct engine lid/ valence

It would be a church key kid and valence, the push button was late '66 or '67 model year to match the change in the tailgate lock to the same design.

Re: Dormobile RHD '66 VW splitscreen

I have seen and worked on this van and it has been done really well and is in superb condition throughout. I believe the work was done by Jacks Garage so a well known restorer in the UK. It is ex UK from memory so you should not need to pat VAT on the price as the tax has already been paid once. Goo...
