Re: T2 AS code engine for T1 kombi?!

A Type 1 is a beetle whatever it's age. A Type 2 is a van whatever it's age. The engines are the same apart from the brace bar in a bay which is easily removed if you want one of those in a split. By type 1 engine people are normally referring to the upright cooling arrangement common to both vehicl...

Dellorto FRD34b Twin Carbs

Genuine Made in Italy, Dellorto FRD34B twin carbs with manifolds, linkage, balance pipe, air filters and breather pipe. I can't get the pictures to load, but if anyone is interested I can hopefully email them to you. Before anyone asks I have no idea what the jetting is, but they worked very nicely ...

Re: Engine runs then dies (pinks a bit when running)

Points gap should be set to 0.4 mm, timing set to the dizzy, I can't see a vacuum take off so I'm assuming it's a 009 or copy, timing should be 7.5 degrees BTDC. A lot of people set these at about 3500 revs at full advance and then don't worry particularly where it sits at idle. I stand to be correc...

Re: Hockey stick keeps popping out in third gear

Have you checked the full length of the linkage? There is a connector about 2' back from where the gear stick goes through the floor. Then the long rod goes through a tube and a second connector at the other end just in front of the gearbox. Both these connectors are held with grub screws which shou...

Re: Iva advice.

Do you mean the IVA test that kit cars have to go through? I can't imagine anyone has ever got a split through that. Your mods would not stop you registering your van in the normal way, but I'd imagine they would stop you from being mot exempt.

Re: Bowden tube / Clutch cable

You should aim to have the Bowden tube solid at each end with a bow downwards taking it an inch off straight. Fine tuning the bow can be done with a washer or two between the end of the tube and the bracket on the gearbox. Your idea of the additional tube and bracket at the chassis end sounds good t...

Any idea if it's been rebuilt previously and mileage? If it was mine I'd make sure it turns freely and stick it on eBay.

Anyone fancy being a video star?

I got the following email this evening from Amber Roberts who works for fold7, an advertising agency in London.... I work for Gumtree’s social agency and we’re currently looking to cast for a video around motors and VW lovers. We’ve heard many good things about The Split Screen and were wondering if...

Re: Steering - how good should it be?

Come along to the Tech Weekend at Vicky Farm July 12/14. I understand one of the demonstrations will be a steering box rebuild.
