Re: Sliding door search

You will be lucky to find any spares at all for sliding door split screens, they are rarer than sambas.
There was someone on eBay selling a nos door hinge but it was £500 just for the hinge!

Re: Crankshaft binding after torquing case bolts

As you've stripped most of it and now something is definitely wrong I would strip it right down and get yourself the Tom Wilson book and do it properly or you won't make the ferry let alone Portugal & Spain.

Re: RHD 1954 Samba

Great to see, although I don't think I could handle the stress of such an in depth and long resto, just finding parts must be a nightmare! It would always be in the back of my mind that someone else only paid £300 for it but if you've got the money (or not) to take a project on like this then hats o...

They have the strongest ring and pinions VW made for gearboxes and the case itself is strong so great for a base for drag/race purposes.

Re: Late type 2 gearbox in a split

Mine wasn't that bad to fit but I kept the engine in the original position so had to trim the rear bulkhead to get it to fit, had to do that anyway as its a vertigate box. Made up some templates for the mounts too so it all fitted with CE irs set up. http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a8/tufty65/vw%20...

Re: JIC fuel line fittings?

That's a brilliant example of what to do and use and it looks very nice too, much better than rubber hoses.
