Re: Rock and roll bed

Did widen a R&R frame to do this but not really worked, too wobbly, later fitted Saab interior, set the fold down rears to match the engine cover height, fabricate side and centre supports and removable bar across the back for when the seats are up, much better.

Re: Dellorto woes :-((

If I accelerate gently they are fine. As soon as I put any kind of load on them they hesitate/stall. This doesn't happen all the time but seems to be a lot more frequent than before. Haven't tried it at idle. had similar symptoms and could not understand as not changed anything, running twin Dells ...

Re: engine & box removal ??

Have taken out both ways, but only ever put back separately, tried assembled but working on not perfectly level ground with all the weight lack would not run true, just too difficult.

Re: Garage Hire - around the Midlands

Hi Benge

not the midlands, but claims to be the first in europe, maybe there are no others yet, suspect the old pits shut down by the jobsworths.

Re: Oil coming out of breather/ oil filler

the breather pipe to the carb is most obvious suspect, it fills with gunge anyway in our climate and has probably frozen blocked.

Re: Newly fitted Gearbox Selection issues!!!!!!!

it sounds like it is not coming fully out of reverse before you are trying for another gear, it could be gear lever adjustment, shift rod connections, clutch pedal/cable adjustment, gearbox mounts, different length on the new gearbox selector, clutch or gearbox. but hopefully it is just adjustment t...

Re: stock exhaust with 1776 engine?

Cannot advise what you should use, but definitely not stock. Stock silencers for 1500/1600 are being sold and really strangled my 1600, the 1600 has a bigger tailpipe than the 1500, but I suspect it would definitely restrict your 1776, we have a type 4 1800 on Jane's bay with a stock exhaust, the ta...

Re: Leaking from gear selector.

vw fitted a seal from feb1966, chassis 216103963, it needs a mod to the housing to install on earlier boxes. stick vw 131 301 225 into google and include the gaps

if the seal has gone 'cos the bushes are worn they are a fit and ream to size job

Re: Anyone got a peep mirror fitted? Pics?

Goose, just seen your reply, didn't like the rover plus west coast combination, the two mirrors are too far apart to be able to glance and quickly see whats happening, currently running a convex 2 inch stick on on the bottom of the rhs WC, better, but 2 buts. The bottom position is the wrong one, th...

Re: Twin webber problems.

Have same carbs on stock 1600 with stock (old) carb and no regulator for few years now. Not had to touch the carbs since installing. Couple of occasions poor running turned out to be points gap. Did find the manifold castings needed a bit of dressing to get the nuts to pull down properly when first ...

Re: engine advice please

agree the 1600+ICTs combination improves all round drive ability, and watch the exhaust, my new stock exhaust came with a tail pipe 3mm smaller than the old one, when I finally got right size had noticeable improvement in rpm.

Re: handbrake stuck on

year shouldnt matter too much, I think the geometry changed but principles are the same, a cable goes to each drum and pulls a lever which works both shoes. You must have split cables to suit the handbrake lever, the drum entry and lever inside is different on the bay, but I dont know the detail of ...
