Use a proper product, nikwax tent and gear solar proof, it protects from UV rays and is a waterproofer. Nothing wrong with fabsil been using it on my base camp canvas tent in.some pritty harsh conditions. You have to remember these products only coat the fabric and every time you pack away and use your tent your abraiding the surface, these products ate designed to be applied fairly regular usually at the fisrt sign of water no longer beading on the material, they won't last forever and are not going to proof a warn out tent

Better than scotch guard! Lol , my base camp tent is very heavy canvas and about 35 years old I use fabsil painted on with a brush 2 coats and its perfect but have now switched to nikwax on my other tents. They use nikwax on canvas tents at the base of Everest, I have used it on my modern tents but my canvas hadn't needed doing since I switched

As a trade tent professional I back up every thing readyboy61 has said. fabsil is a good product but Nikwax produce a full range of great dedicated proofing product. once you start reproofing canvas you will always need to continue doing it. good clean canvas will absorb water and swell up. This will reduce the holes between the fibres making it water proof. Older canvas will get worn and the fibres no longer swell evenly leading to water leak through. Dirt and grease ect and bird dropping also have this effect. The worst culprit is the sun. UV rays cause the material to break down and the swelling of the fibres will reduce and so on. reproofing liquids just coat the outer fibres and will wear off quite quickly resulting re treatment at least once a year to be effective.

Im not going all that way   Right, Coleman Keith is also backing you up, even thought I didn't doubt you  Nikwax it is then, and the one to go for is the tent proofing one?

Thanks

Did one of my tents a few years ago with Thompsons water seal worked really well.

But did end up with some funny brush marks as I didnt get all of the Creosote out the brush before doing it !! :D

nikwax tent and gear solar proof is the one to use, id give the fabric a good clean with tech wash before hand then 2 good coats.
