http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/ ... id=1275256
well here goes for sale my 1955 devon caravette one of the best available.fully 50s correct devon interior in loverly original condision.one of the earliest around. this is one of three buses ordered by a swedish converter to fit out with devon interiors <side load doors as on rhd buses> even though this is a lhd bus. the interior has a black cooker housed in the door cupboard, a sink and tap,a cooler/both tables with all legs, draws in the rear, the wardrobe and various storage.all new foam and professionally made seat covers, new curtains and floor coverings all chosen to match the period.

the interior is a 60's interior ...61/62 the table is a 62 at the earliest..

Hmmm - not sure i believe the story about a "Swedish converter". This could be a pretty recent fitting of a 60s Devon interior into a 55 bus from who knows where - nicely done though. Has anyone in SSVC actually seen this one?

There were a number of splits supplied to Scandinavia with the doors on the wrong side. I know of at least three that were used as airport buses, but they are much later - 1964/65.

Fancy price!

I know Ron, he told me about the bus last year , he`s a genuine fella, he told me about it being a 55 devon but when he described the interior I sussed it must be a retro fitted early 60`s one

he always has nice buses so no doubt this will be nice and no doubt worth the asking price, certainly not an interior he has banged into the back of the bus,
I`d like to hope this is an example of the service Devon offered to supply interiors to buses not new from VW ??

fingers crossed i`ll bump into him soon and i`ll grill him a bit :-)

Even if the Swedish company did the work, surely the advert should say '55 bus with an original early 60's Devon not "fully 50s correct devon interior".

Isn't that a good thing? Then the advert could be reworded so less confusing?

As this started life as an 8 seater microbus it was obviously used for people carrying, maybe airport or hotel.
It was once red and silver and imported in 1995 and has had 4 keepers since then.
More than likely the interior has been fitted after it was imported.

just to set the story straight. This was my bus, I bought it off Owen Warlow as a wreck and restored it. Changed the colour to the Sealing wax red and chestnut brown it still wears. Think it was two tone green originally or was that my 61?
I fitted the Devon interior as the bus was totally empty when I bought it.
Colin Dulson took me to some dodgy farm in the middle of no where. The seller had more splitty stuff than I had ever seen. This is where the 60's interior came from.
Was deffinately not fitted by some Swedish importer unless that is referring to me !
Tappers in Birmingham did the head lining and recovered the seats. I restored the interior which was all coming apart, varnished it etc.
I still have some of the rusty screws and rusty hinges off the cupboards !
Bus was featured with this info in a Flat 4 magazine.
I mailed the seller to correct him but have not heard back from him.
regards
Simon

Can't remember the issue number the bus is shown on the front cover as a small insert.
Article was called teachers pet.
You can still buy the hinges the same as the Devon ones new in the packet. Small hardware shops seem to sell them.
I have a place called Mahoneys by me that I bought all of mine from now for three interiors I have restored.
Alot of the rusty stuff I binned about 4 months ago as we were having a garage extension done. If u want rusty ones can have a look.
Si
