Le Vieux Port is an excellent campsite down south west France that has great surf and fantastic for kids with every thing you could want out of a campsite.
Me and Hads made the trip down in our splittys a couple of years ago, but we will definately be going again

try Les Grands Pins camping at Lacanau Ocean - superb surf area, very friendly campsite, cheaper out of peak season, good quiet beaches to N&S - go to Arcachon and surf the Grand Dune du Pyla - the biggest sand dune in Europe - take an old bodyboard!!

have fun
Rob

Can only agree with this. Fantastic campsite for kids, try and go as late as possible. Lacanau is so much more chilled than the spots furter south (Hossegor for example) and if you get some bad weather, you're only an hour from Bordeaux which is a sweet city. Take the RN from St.Malo which runs down parallel to the motorway and enjoy the rolling miles of avenues, vineyards and lavender fields. Way jealous!

I can't remember the name of it, but there is a pretty good campsite right at the foot of the dune - it is well worth the visit \ detour to the dune - totally amazing (take your camera also)

Cheers

Neil

I can recommend this campsite: http://www.pavillon-royal.com/pavillon-royal

It's in Bidart, very close to Biarritz and it's located on the beach.
We already booked again for this summer.

Pictures of our trip in 2006 here: http://www.flat4free.be/forum/viewtopic.php?t=19922

This is the sea view from the campsite:
