Inspiration please... Germany Switzerland etc

Postby vwJim » Mon Mar 20, 2017 8:39 pm

Short Road trip this summer, most likely 4 wks / July.

Thinking southern Germany / Switzerland. Will be catching some of the Tour de France too.

We don't know much about those areas as we've passed through a few times but never lingered. So this trip is heading down there.

Any recommendations of areas most welcome. We rarely use campsites, so it's more nice areas to visit or areas to avoid too I guess.

Thanks.

Jim, lake Zug, about 30 minutes drive from Zurich is lovely.

Swim in the Lake in the summer. Nice camping by the lake. Gets busy in the summer. Recommended.

We're touring southern Germany this summer and we're looking at Fussen, Berchtesgaden, The Romantic Road, Lake Constance, Heildelberg. Been to a few of those places so know they're worth the visit.

Cheers,

We did the Romantic Road before, it was a good route to Austria.

I can highly recommend Lake Annecy and the surrounding areas if you are venturing into France. Not far from Geneva.

Views and Paragliding from La Forclaz are pretty cool. Views from top of La Sambuy are cool too. Tour du France route sometimes too.

Remember you'll have to buy a Vignette for the bus for Swiss motorways even if you venture onto them by mistake!

And Lake Constanz as mentioned above too.

Yep, Lake Annecy was my daily commute in the winters.

The vignette is a bit of a PITA, but yes, will have to get one.

Neuschwanstein Castle, Innsbruck, Kehlsteinhaus (eagles nest),

best Wiener Schnitzel I ever had was at a little restaurant half way up the cable car to Hafelekar Station. Innsbruck Alpine Zoo (also worth a visit).

bit further east though that you may be travelling.

have fun
