I'm new here but would love to be a part of your community although am from Hungary.
Last year I have started a Lost & Found project of an 1965 splitscreen kastenwagen - with very nice history.

I will put down in detail what I know of this van and how we found it - its a pretty awsome story.

The job is currently being done, but you can find all pics and a short description in chronology since we found it.

T1 transporter ex-kastenwagen (with windows) project.
All the body work is done:
- brand new body units
- welding and 99.9% of the body work finished (lots of work hours)
- paint preparation and anti corrosion treatment done
- Creative Engineering parts: Safari windows, Deluxe Body Trim Kit, Bulkhead double seat, Rock n Roll seat bed, Complete rubber kit KOMBI, VW stainless steel emblem.
- need to purchase 6 side opening windows still (with all accessories)

I have documented the full resto project with docs and pictures.
I have the 1600cc single port engine, transmission, and all valid papers. All of the original instruments and most of the accessories.

The following are already done:
- front suspension modification 2" narrowed to fit porsche fuchs nicely, servo disc brakes, and a slight lowering only for road confort (no pics of the discs yet - will take some this week)
- rear suspension modification to fit IRS, 80% done. brand new BBT AT code tranny purchased
- overhauled 2000cm CU code type4 engine to match the AT tranny and the IRS for nicer freeway speeds etc.

I'm really thinking of buying a CE steering rack kit I'm just not sure the van will pass Hungarian MOT if it's fitted so I think I'll wait until thats done and then get the rack kit and install it.

We are currently at the stage where the big things already happened so the wreck looks like a bus now - and the coming months will cover most (hopefully all) fiddling with the small things. Like: windows (opening side windows which I still need to buy, full electricity, etc)

I'm not really sure about myself either regarding the engine. I have dumped the idea of a stock typ1 engine, dumped the tunning typ1 engine too, have a CU typ4 stock engine at the moment waiting to be overhauled (bit of tunning with porsche cooling, 40er webers) - BUT! The sadly I like the subaru way too I just don't know if I want it or not...

NO pics yet I went ot to the workshop with my camera... and left the SD card in the reader

Any way engine hesitation done for the moment - as it turns out that by Hungarian regulation only VW to VW engine swap possible - so a scooby will not be road legal ever. Investigating further for legal shortcuts but it seems like.

SO we'll go with the typ4 CU engine with porsche cooling. Bought a porsche 964 11 blade fan + ring + alternator, housing is on its way, a pair of 40 webers too... this will make a nice 100-110 BHP which is prolly enough for the moment

And hey anybody here a photobucket expert? Seems from one of my accounts all images show correctly but from another there is always an error message when I want to submit a post... well the post itself shows but the images don't.

There is still something wrong with my photbucket account, whatever I do it won't embed the picture here... HELP!

Ordered the following interior panels from ebay, hope they are going to arrive soon and everything will be OK with them...





Some other great news is that we are tking the bus to the paint shop next week - going to post some pics on the process as it's going to be an interesting 2 months til the finish.

And it seems my only "problem" will be the side window hole issue - which I'm thinking how to solve. Will put the topic up for discussien soon, hoping some of you might be able to give some advice.
