I know the feeling but i know i'd never get another one like the one i had. The mk2 16v is the best hot hatch that the 80's produced in my opinion.
Mine had a 2L 16v on Jenvey throttle bodies (as is obvious in the pics  ). Quite mildly tuned as the bottom end was standard. The head was flowed with shrick cams and the rev limit kept basically as it came from the factory so she would stay reliable and not let me down. It was very strong, made 200bhp with amazing throttle response which made it easy to handle combined with a Quaife diff. So it wasn't as powerful as the popular 1.8t conversions but sounded awesome and would throw throw flames out the back on overrun 8)
I sold it during a period of a few personal problems and one of the subsequent owners wrote it off (and almost crippled himself). Very sad.

my first car, a mini clubman! Complete rebuild with my dad, this is exactly how it looked but not my actual car as can't find pics

Image

68 bay.
Only pic I can find! Very rough and had a lot of scrapes in it included being hit by a huge lorry on the A5. Comes with roof rack welded in by me!! (I'm the one with a can of lager, think this is at either RTTS in mid 90's or BeetleBash (?) when the Shamen were there. ;)

Bug
I think you can see that she isn't sporting her 70's og wings etc....

Missy
my old bus. 11 window 57 oz import with 1600 motor.

here she is again but alongside my wifes old cal look bug, and also out friends awesome bay, stock (bar interior), but better than when it left the factory.

Sold the split and the bug sadly (both of which I would like back!) and then had a few barren years driving a vectors Sri and passat. Both were fine and warmer than the bug but a bit dull!
these aren't mine but exactly the same
