Can anyone offer any advice on the best screws/fixings to attach the units into the van, Probably a daft question but the bit I'm most windy about is fixing up the overhead table top carrier bit from a Caravette (?) - I don't want is to come down when the table is in situ (as the top seems pretty heavy).

I'm planning on fitting a full caravette interior I've had in the garage for the last 5 years into my 15 window so will hopefully be able to post some pics at some point.

Cheers

I used normal wood screws; came loose once but re did them up and fine. With the overhead unit, put something above the screw to screw into like a small bit of wood or seal it with some thread lock. You could even mangle on some small nuts as no on will see em. Just as long as there is something there (sitting above gutter if you get my drift) it will hold fast no problem. I had three little ones under mine and never shifted once. Its what they would have used way back when. Screws, I mean not small children! Like I said, even just with screws, came loose once, but re tightened and fine.

my overhead table carrier is just balanced on top of the 2 rear cupboards, then 2 small scews at the rear , at each end where hinges are...threw the wood and into the metal lip your headlining clips behind

you wont be able to do this as you have too many windows for the rear cupboards :D

1 thing i do strngley suggest....dont think you can pop another table on top of the table carrier and then brake ....i manged to put a lovely dint in a NOS coleman fridge as the table slid off the holder and down into the rear of the bus

but as jonolly says....small screws do the job.....mines mostly held in by gravity and hope, and nothing moves around much

Cheers guys - I will go for screws and thread lock for starters and see how it holds up. The wood/something above the gutter approach is a good idea but it would mean tampering with my newly fitted headliner... will have to think ahead in future.

By the way - digressing slightly I have just found that Brywax (light/classic brown) brings bare Oak veneer up to a fairly good match to original units. I know it's not the correct way of doing it but I am really impressed with how it matches. Bit of random information but I thought I'd pass it on.

Cheers

On my 62 Devonette the rear board (no table) is fitted with 8 long self tapping screws into the header rail. These screws went through the thick plywood board and had slotted counter sunk heads which were set about one layer below the 8 ply surface. The heads were covered with wood filler so you could not see them. Where they were not rusted through (another story) they were impossible to find.

So the screws were long 60's screw into metal threads not double helix modern ones..and that stayed up till the board got wet, delaminated and exploded with the rust...Where they did not get wet they stayed in place for nearly 50 years!
