Just coming to the end of week one of my three week tour of France in a '67 split.

Unfortunately 4th gear has also come to an end - just pottering along one of the motorways through Paris and 4th started making some horrific clunking noises and shaking the bus.

The other gears are fine - 3rd got me to the campsite without issues, just slowly.

I know a few people on here seen to know France quite well so thought it was worth a shot. Anyone know of where I can source a spare swing axle box from (pref 1500) and get it fitted or has the facilities? I've got a trolly jack, axle stands and tools.

As I've still got 2 Weeks off I'd rather try and sort it here and salvage some of the holiday than get recovered back to blighty. I could carry on pottering on the small roads in 3rd, but it may let go somewhere less convenient!

Cheers in advance for any suggestions.

8O sorry to hear that fella. I'll email Remi from the Flat Four club, he lives in Paris and will hopefully know someone nearby.
PM me your number and I'll pass it on to him.

Hi John,

in which city are you camping?

There are quite a lot of guyz near Paris who have busses and could help.

So, we'll try to help you to find a solution to repair the bus quickly.

Remi

Hi john, just catch you text on your phone, as I said, I'm near you and trying to find you a gearbox soon...

Text me back if you need something else ( place to stay, eat or anything ...)

I'm waiting for my friend if he has a gearbox for you.

jeff

That looks familiar!

Thought I'd do a bit of sight seeing while I was in the area, and touring about in the bus was out!

Thanks for calling by Jeff - can't express how much I appreciate it!

Hopefully something can be sourced, and we'll have a crack at it.

I'm at the campsite in Villiers Sur Orge for a few more days - it's cheap and friendly!

Cheers everyone for the help and support!

My pleasure fella!

Do you want me to bring you "croissants" (french bakery) tomorrow morning?

I'm working during the night, just tell me if you need anything!

The French Original bus forum addicts are ready to help

I have a 8x35 complete, perfect, but in carton boxes :( If you feel like putting it back together
It can be in Paris within 48h.

Merci!

Your offer is too kind! I just met up with my girlfriend in Paris today so we are going to head there again tomorrow to do some touristy things

I'll try wpk racing tomorrow too as they are not far away and may have some suggestions for finding a gearbox!

Once again I can't express how grateful I am for all the help and support!

Cheers guys!
