April 2008

In a very close fought vote this month's winner is Doc AKA John Keat.

The bus is an early '59 Oz bus restored by Roy of the Bus Stop in Australia (pictures of it still appear all over the Bus Stop site). The bus pre-restoration is shown below and what a transformation he's made.

Some words from Roy on the Kombi Club forums (a great site):

"Put her up for $30k here in Aus, then decided to ship it to the UK and then me and Anita were going to join her over there for a holiday. That never happened and we sold her in the UK.
I am over the moon that Doc has her, I know she will be looked after.
At the time there was very few restored splits that I knew of, apart from Dave's famous bus and T2's fabulous blue & white beauty.
But on her first outing she won two trophies at VWDCQ 'VW Action day', one being president's choice."

The bus was bought off Roy by David Blake (Lavabed Kid) and purchased by John in November 2007.

"I've not had to do too much to her. I've gone stock with the exhaust (something about the stock chug chug noise really does it for me),  replaced the pistons and barrels and added a stock air filter."

"My plans for her? First will be a dual circuit conversion and may be a CSP front disk kit. I've 3 kids and that extra bit of confidence in stopping would be nice. I've a middle bench seat which I'll try and get upholstered to match at some point. Other than that cosmetically nothing what so ever other than to keep her as clean and straight as she is."
